A new disturbing video from the social media website VK.com, shows five young Russian vigilantes, viciously attacking a transgender woman in a public park and filming the entire incident.
The title of the video refers to the person being beaten as a “homosexual” and shows five young men approaching the trans woman in a public park in broad daylight. The woman has her coat and undergarments ripped off her, and is savagely beaten and humiliated by the attackers.
In the video, the trans woman is being distracted by three men while a fourth suspect approaches the woman and punches her in the face:
As the victim tries to escape, she is again repeatedly kicked and punched while crawling on the ground:
Russia’s anti-gay Neo-Nazi movement has rapidly growing in popularity over the last year, with the goal of luring young gay and trans kids in to a meeting, then kidnapping, savagely beating and torturing them. The entire incident is filmed and later posted to VK.com to further humiliate the victims and to be shared by the Neo-Nazi movements followers and sympathizers.
According to the Spectrum Human Rights Alliance: ‘Video recordings of bulling and torture are freely distributed on the internet in order to out LGBT teens to their respective schools, parents and friends. Many victims were driven to suicides, the rest deeply traumatized.’
A recent poll by Pew Research Center found that three out of every four Russians say society should not accept homosexuality. The percentage of those who think homosexuality should be accepted dropped 4% since 2007, from 20% to 16%.
In March, Levada Public Opinion Center reported that 85 percent of Russian adults said they were strongly against a law that would allow same-sex marriage. They also found that supporters of same-sex marriage in Russia fell from 14% to just 5% over the past three years. On the other side of the spectrum, some expressed strong opposition to homosexuality: 16 percent of those polled suggested that homosexuals should be isolated from society, 22 percent said that the treatment of homosexuality must be made compulsory, and 5 percent said that homosexuals should be ‘exterminated.’
