Felicity Huffman is standing by her TV son, Charlie Carver, two days after the Desperate Housewives star came out as gay on Instagram.

Huffman made it a point to let her 27-year-old co-star know she loves and supports him through an open note she posted on Facebook on Wednesday.

“Dear Charlie,” she writes. “I love you. I admire you. I applaud you. You make me happy to be human. You make me proud to be an actor. Love your TV Mom, Lynette. And your real life friend, Flicka.”

Huffman’s poignant note was accompanied by a photo of a sign that reads, “be who you needed when you were younger,” the same picture that the Teen Wolf star had shared in his coming out message on Instagram.

Charlie, along with his twin brother Max, played one of Felicity’s on-screen twin sons from 2008 until 2012, replacing Brent and Shane Kinsman.

“As a young boy, I knew I wanted to be an actor. I knew I wanted to be a lot of things… It was around that age that I also knew, however abstractly, that I was different from some of the other boys in my grade,” Carver wrote in his announcement (read the full letter here). “Over time, this abstract ‘knowing’ grew and articulated itself through a painful gestation marked by feelings of despair and alienation, ending in a climax of saying three words out loud: ‘I am gay’.”

The actor said he first came out to his friends and family. He was comforted by the fact that they created a safe space where his sexual orientation was “celebrated.”
