Can you guess which three presidential candidates attended a kill the gays convention this weekend?
If you guessed Senator Ted Cruz, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, then you are 100% correct!
All three Republican presidential hopefuls attended the “National Religious Liberties Conference” hosted by radical right-wing pastor Kevin Swanson in Des Moines, Iowa. All three candidates have expressed their extreme opposition to gay marriage.
Swanson, who has previously called for death to gays, has defended Uganda’s kill-the-gays bill, warned that the Girl Scouts, women’s soccer and movies like “Frozen” turn girls into lesbians, said that God gave gay people AIDS as an act of kindness, and accused gay people of causing devastating floods and hurricanes, reports Right Wing Watch.
“There are instances in which both the Old and New Testament speak to the matter with unbelievable clarity,” Swanson told the audience. “There’s not to be any debate about it…. You know what that sin is – it’s the sin of homosexuality…. In fact in Romans 1 Paul affirms that this particular sin is worthy of death, The Old and New Testament, I believe both speak with authority and we ought to receive it.”
Although Cruz, Huckabee, and Jindal are not directly responsible for the extreme hatred that Swanson spewed at the conference, their very presence at an event he organized and hosted stands as a tacit approval of his message.
Watch a clip of Swanson stating his belief that the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, declares that the punishment for homosexuality is to be death:
Swanson then told the crowd that if he ever found out that his own son was gay and that son invited him to his wedding, he would show up covered in “sackcloth and ashes” and then smear himself in cow manure as he sat on the steps of the church and wailed lamentations, reports RightWingWatch.
“There are families, we’re talking Christian families, pastors’ families, elders’ families from good, godly churches,” Swanson said, “whose sons are rebelling, hanging out with homosexuals and getting married and the parents are invited. What would you do if that was the case? Here is what I would do: sackcloth and ashes at the entrance to the church and I’d sit in cow manure and I’d spread it all over my body. That is what I would do and I’m not kidding, I’m not laughing.”
“I’m grieving, I’m mourning, I’m pointing out the problem,” Swanson screamed as he went off about people trying to “carve happy faces on the sores” of a society that is utterly “messed up.”

In his closing speech, Swanson also called on America to repent for reading Harry Potter, and thereby defying the Almighty. He claimed the book series was designed to corrupt six, seven and eight year olds – and he said it would be better for many parents to hang a millstone around their neck and drown them than for them to read Harry Potter.
“Friends, we are on the very cusp of judgement as I see it. We need to call America to repent,” he said. “Repentance from defying the almighty. Repentance of abortion, the hundreds of millions of dead bodies, I don’t know how many.”
“America, repent of Harry Potter. Repent that Dumbledore emerged as a homosexual mentor for Harry Potter.”
