Shocking Video Shows University of Nebraska-Lincoln Frat Bros Branding A Freshman’s Butt [NSFW]

University of Nebraska-Lincoln administrators and university police say they were made aware on Tuesday of a 2014 Vine showing alleged Phi Kappa Psi brothers branding a freshman, the Daily Nebraskan reports.

UNL spokesman Steve Smith told the Daily Nebraskan that while neither the person who was branded nor the person who posted the Vine are currently UNL students, “the university is taking the actions in this video very seriously. The appropriate authorities have been notified, and the university will take action at the proper time.”

The Vine was allegedly posted on May 3, 2014, by user Drewdle.

The short video shows a young man being held down while another person brands the Greek letters for Phi Kappa Psi onto his left buttock. The video is captioned “#ass #branding #ouch #damn #frat.”

Cosmo reports:

According to JournalStar.com, the chapter’s current Phi Kappa Psi president Charles Costa is working with police to determine what happened. Costa did not deny the fraternity’s involvement. Instead, he said the branding was done at an off-campus house and involved a willing member of the fraternity, but that branding is “not a ritual or part of” his fraternity’s initiation process.

According to JournalStar.com, Nebraska law defines branding as hazing and is punishable with a $10,000 fine. UNL Police Capt. Jerry Plessel also said the statute of limitation on hazing charges in Nebraska is 18 months.
