It was announced this past Saturday that the latest reality TV show on Oprah’s OWN network will follow the life of homophobic pastor John Gray. The Book of John Gray is a look into the life of the Houston pastor, who leads the largest congregation in the country.
He’s also a homophobe.
An associate teaching pastor at Lakewood Church, Gray has taken to Twitter on several occasions to express his disdain for such matters as marriage equality and gay sex.
For instance, following President Obama’s 2012 statement that same-sex marriage should be legal, Gray tweeted the following: “The Christian President of United States believes something different from the God he serves. Anyone else a little concerned?”
Less than a year later, he said homosexuality is “no different from fornication, adultery, lying or any other sin God was clear about. It’s all the same”.
Apparently a pop culture aficionado, Gray also chimed in about the 2014 Grammys, which featured a mass wedding of LGBT couples to the tune of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love”.
“Everyone is allowed to get married based on state laws. But dishonoring ppl of faith by adding clear church imagery is wrong,” tweeted the pastor.
“Speaking of husbands and wives, how many married folk we got in her right now?” John Gray says in a video upload to YouTube. “How many people know convenant is God honoring? Convenant is right. I don’t care what the world says, they are trying to redefine marriage. Don’t listen.”
Did Oprah and her people know about this? If not, surely they know now. It remains to be seen if the media storm and public criticism around the new show will have any impact on whether or not it’ll be aired.
